SKF automatic cordless lubricator for one-point lubrication. It consists of a transparent reservoir filled with the required lubricant and a container with an electrochemical cell that produces an inert gas. When activated, the built-in batteries are electrically connected and the gas is produced. The rate of gas evolution is proportional to the intensity of the electric current and can be varied by selecting the appropriate dosing interval on the disc at the top of the lubricator. The dosing interval can be set from 1 to 12 months. In case the lubricator is mounted on a machine that operates intermittently with longer breaks, it can be temporarily switched off.
Once activated, the gas pressure increases until the piston starts to move and the lubricator starts to dispense lubricant. There is a shorter delay before the gas is released, after which the lubricant starts to be dispensed.This delay depends on the selected purge time, e.g. a setting of 12 months results in a longer delay than a selection of 3 months.
At temperatures above 40 °C (105 °F) the dispenser operates twice as fast (i.e. when set to 12 months). In practice, this is not a problem because the bearing is filled with grease to ensure proper lubrication. The set interval corresponds to the actual emptying time of the reservoir at an operating temperature of 20 °C and a back pressure of 0.5 bar. The dosing rate may be influenced by the ambient temperature.
