What are the main types of bearings?

• Rolling-element bearings use rolling elements such as balls, rollers or spherical rollers that move between the inner and outer rings. This type of bearing can be further divided into ball bearings, roller bearings, tapered roller bearings, spherical roller bearings, needle roller bearings and other types.
• Plain bearings consist of a bearing journal, bearing bush and, in some cases, a lining that forms the sliding surface. They operate by allowing two surfaces to slide against each other with the help of a lubricant. Compared with rolling-element bearings, plain bearings have a simple design, are easy to install and maintain, and are suitable for applications involving high loads.
• Thrust bearings are designed to accommodate loads acting primarily along the axis of rotation. They are also known as axial bearings and are used in applications where it is necessary to reduce friction caused by axial forces.
• Radial bearings are designed to accommodate loads acting primarily perpendicular to the axis of rotation. They are commonly used to reduce friction under radial loads and are found in a wide range of industrial machinery and equipment.
• Combined bearings, also known as radial-axial bearings, are designed to accommodate both radial and axial loads. Depending on their design, they can combine the advantages of different bearing technologies to provide reliable and efficient operation.
