Timing Belts T10

T10 timing belts are metric synchronous toothed belts with a trapezoidal tooth profile and a pitch of 10 mm. Compared to the T2.5 and T5 profiles, they have significantly larger teeth and are suitable for more robust synchronous drives, conveyor mechanisms, linear drives, and applications with medium power transmission. The T profile is designed for precise mechanical engagement of the belt with corresponding teeth.

The designation T10 indicates a tooth pitch of 10 mm. However, the profile itself does not specify the length or width of the belt. When selecting a specific toothed belt, it is therefore necessary to also consider the pitch length, number of teeth, and belt width. These dimensions must correspond to the design and load of the given drive.

 

Characteristics of the T10 Profile

The T10 profile has a classic trapezoidal tooth shape with a nominal angle of 40° and a pitch of 10 mm. According to ISO 17396, the nominal tooth height is 2.5 mm. This geometry is characteristic of the metric T series and distinguishes the T10, for example, from the AT10 profile, which has a different tooth shape.

T10 belts are manufactured in various designs and material versions. In standard polyurethane belts, steel tension cords may be used to ensure high dimensional stability. Depending on the specific design, belts with other tension members or double-sided teeth may also be available. Therefore, the technical specifications of the specific product are always decisive.

 

Where is the T10 used?

The T10 is suitable for synchronous drives, linear mechanisms, and conveyor applications where a larger pitch and more robust teeth are required. Manufacturers cite applications such as machine tools, packaging machines, automation, conveyor technology, linear drives, and other machinery.

However, the specific load capacity cannot be determined solely from the T10 designation. It depends, among other things, on the belt width, design, and material, rotational speed, transmitted power, number of teeth in mesh, and tensioning method. For more demanding applications, it is therefore advisable to rely on calculations or the manufacturer’s technical data.

 

How to choose the right T10 belt?

First, verify the T10 profile and the 10 mm pitch. Then determine the required pitch length and belt width. For a standard belt, the number of teeth can be calculated from the pitch length. For example, a T10 belt with a pitch length of 600 mm has 60 teeth.

When replacing an existing belt, we recommend checking its complete designation and dimensions. It is not enough to simply measure the length—the tooth profile, pitch, and belt width must also match. Furthermore, a T10 cannot be automatically substituted for an AT10. Although both profiles have a 10 mm pitch, their tooth geometries are different.

 

T10 for More Robust Synchronous Drives

The T10 is the ideal choice for applications where a 10-mm pitch and classic trapezoidal teeth are suitable. Thanks to its larger profile compared to the T5, the design can also be adapted to drives with higher loads, though this always depends on the belt’s width and specific design.

For proper operation, it is important that the belt matches the entire drive. When selecting a belt, we therefore recommend verifying not only the belt’s dimensions but also the compatibility of its profile with the toothing used and the required operating parameters.
